The role and significance of the architectural drawing

Numerous architectural historians and architects have written about the architectural drawing, there has been a focus on the importance attached to 'the drawing' and its value. As well, there is the issue of the power of a drawing - possibilities and meaning. One can make a distinction between the drawing as a means of communication and as a design tool. Finally, there is the entire recent issue of the tool of the drawing, which has largely shifted from drawing by hand to drawing by machine - a shift from pencil to the computer. The drawing thus becomes a continuous and ongoing process. Research Question : how can an open-source web-based database of the architectural drawing be developed, which is a useful tool for practitioners and students? How can it be fine-tuned through iterative feedback from practitioners and students ?
