In the last decades ‘choreography’ has been used in an ever-expanding sense and it, increasingly been being defined as a generic practice whichthatthat can be applied to different media and contexts. This evolution has destabilized the authorial position of the choreographer:. ‘bBeing a choreographery’ now entails adopting a plethora different of positions and strategies that are shaped by and performed in different media and contexts. Using Coining the term ‘diffraction’ as a key methodological concept, this research sets out to explore this unstable authorial position. Through an in-depth analysis of six early and mid-career choreographers from different national and training backgrounds we it explores the different performative strategies choreographers use to establish their diffracted authorial position. ThisIn doing so, the research will not only be a methodological innovation in the field of the performing arts, but also hashave practical implications for the self-positioning of choreographers in the field of post-COVID contemporary dance.
