Valorization of condensed tannins through a depolymerization-hydrogenation strategy
The research objective is to develop a process for converting condensed tannins into chemical building blocks, thus tapping into a vast resource of renewable polyphenols with a unique structure. Heterogeneous catalysis is used to facilitate a highly selective conversion towards a handful of products. The envisioned products will maximally retain the original tannin functionality, as to obtain highly valuable chemical building blocks.
