  • Research Expertise:I study sensory ecology and animal behaviour, specializing in bioacoustics, predator-prey interactions, and functional ecology. As a member of the Cosys-Lab and Active Perception lab I am closely working with acoustic engineers on a number of interdisciplinary projects, addressing fundamental questions in the fields of sensory ecology and animal behavior, including a focus on function of sensory systems and animal interacting with their environment. I am mostly researching the interaction between bats and their insect prey.
  • Keywords:BEHAVIOURAL ECOLOGY, ANIMAL BEHAVIOUR, ANIMAL DETECTION, SENSORY, INSECTA, SENSORY PERCEPTION, BATS, INSECTIVORY, Electronics and electrical engineering
  • Disciplines:Animal ecology, Behavioural ecology, Behavioural biology, Invertebrate biology, Vertebrate biology, Animal biology not elsewhere classified, Audio and speech computing, Data visualisation and imaging, Signal processing not elsewhere classified, Computational biomodelling and machine learning, Data visualisation and high-throughput image analysis
  • Research techniques:To study bat-insect interactions I employ a combination of bat behavioural experiments, using sophisticated acoustic and video recording systems, including multi-microphone arrays and stereo high-speed camera setups, and signal analysis.
  • Users of research expertise:Behavioural ecologists and biomimetic engineers
