Sabbatical Erick Janssen: The (dys)regulation of sexual arousal and behavior

During this sabbatical period I want to achieve the following two goals: Developing and submitting new research applications (ERC Advanced, FWO) and writing a book proposal, with several chapters, for a popular science book on sexual arousal. The two goals are interrelated. The book will provide an intimate behind-the-scenes look at sex research, providing an overview of what we now know about the psychophysiology of sexual desire and arousal, as well as a discussion of important unresolved issues, including what exactly sexual arousal is and how it can influence our decisions and our behavior. The research proposals build on this and will focus on fundamental questions about the nature and (dis) regulation of sexual arousal and sexual behavior, based on, among other things, the 'dual control model of sexual response' that I co-developed.
