Structure analysis and valorization of native lignin derived oligomers

Valorization of lignin is of utmost importance to ensure the economic viability of lignocellulosic biorefineries. The recent developed lignin-first biorefinery regards valorization of lignin as one of the primary biorefinery targets, displaying promising prospect in future lignin application. However, the residue after solvent extraction, containing most of the phenolic oligomers, have not yet received sufficient attention. In this study, the structure of oligomers obtained from lignin-first biorefinery (vide infra) will be investigated first. Afterward, these oligomers will be valorized to bio-based polymers including polyester polyol, polyester polyacid, and radical polymerization of lignin oligomers to discover its potential applications.
