Identification of the mechanisms underlying resident macrophage activation in postoperative ileus

To identify which particular cell type(s) within the muscularis externa are responsible for the initial macrophage activation in POI by investigating the entire CD45+ immune population and CD45- cell population (including smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, enteric glia and neurons and so on) using state-of-art and cutting edge techniques. This work will lead to the identification of mechanisms underlying resident macrophage activation in POI and will ultimately lead to novel targets and treatments.
