Project

Smart, degradable polymer-based tubular constructs for deep flexor tendon repair

The project aims at synthesizing and processing modified, biodegradable polymers into a smart construct for tendon repair. First, these new polymers will be developed with the desired degradation times. Subsequently, they will be processed into (tubular) constructs via melt electrowriting. This technique allows a strong control of the design of the product. In a next step, drugs will be added to the constructs for further improved tendon repair. Finally, these constructs will be subjected to an in-depth mechanical and biological characterization. This construct is a benefit for the medical world, tackling both biological and mechanical issues still existing in the current state-of-the-art techniques.
