Additive manufacturing of hybrid cementitious materials

Reinforced concrete (RC) is by far the most widely used composite material in the world. Despite the enormous economic importance of RC construction, there is a lack of viable concepts for its digital production. Thus, it is the applicant’s vision to establish a new research line on additive manufacturing (AM) of RC, which is expected to be one of the most revolutionary and game-changing technologies in the construction industry of the 21st century. Based on a sound review of R&D and an analysis of practical requirements, this project will develop and fundamentally research hybrid fabrication methods for 3D-printing of concrete with integrated reinforcement, viable for real-world application.
