European Union General Data Protection Regulation and Its Implications for United States Data Protection Regulation

The goal is to present the reader with a basic historical context of the development of data policy in the EU and the US thus far with a primary focus on post 2018 data policy. Focusing on post 2018 data policy developments in the EU and the response of the US to these policies will lead to answering the main question of this paper: How does GDPR implementation in Europe influence the United States in its own development and implementation of federal level data protection policy?
