Duodenal neuro-immune interactions in functional dyspepsia: role of soluble mediators and anti-inflammatory mechanisms of proton pump inhibitors

Functional dyspepsia is an extremely frequent condition and emerging data increasingly point towards the duodenum as a key region in its pathogenesis. Therefore, we will study the duodenal immunological and neuronal activation along with the duodenal micro-environment in the context of functional dyspepsia. Futhermore, we will study anti-inflammatory mechanisms of proton pomp inhibitors, which will aid in the development of predictive markers to tailor the current first-line therapy.
