Book Contribution - Chapter

This is the tenth agreement concluded since the second half of the 1990s in the southeastern Baltic Sea which is directly related to the dissolution of the former Soviet Union. It is the fourth tripoint agreement of the four periods in which agreements were reached to delimit maritime boundaries in the Baltic Sea and the third tripoint agreement concluded during the fourth of these periods. Like its two predecessor tripoint agreements, this agreement establishes the precise coordinates of the tripoint, adds a short segment of maritime boundary of about 0.8 nautical miles (M) where none had existed before, and touches upon the delicate matter of the exact legal value to be attributed to the maritime boundary agreements concluded by the Soviet Union in the area before its dissolution in 1991.
