Sabbatical Wim François: Bible Translation and Bible Reading in the Late Medieval and Early Modern Low Countries

The further rendering of an English-language monograph with the history of vernacular Bible translations in the Netherlands, from the late medieval spiritual reform movements to the period of the Counter-Reformation, is urgently needed. It should focus on its genesis against the background of the religious reform movements between 1400 and 1550, which influence text and para text, theological discussions and censorship measures, as well as the intended and effective readership. For this, further research into biblical copies in libraries in the Netherlands (and beyond) is necessary - if not available in digital form -, the (critical) study of the still developing secondary literature, as well as the careful follow-up of current doctorates on biblical reading culture.
