Project

Develop and organize training for veterinarians to monitor animal welfare in slaughterhouses

The Flemish Government envisages the recruitment of self-employed veterinarians to monitor animal welfare in slaughter houses.

The monitoring is comprised of the following:

  • suitability for transport of the animals, loading density
  • unloading, moving, treatment, temporary housing, fixating, stunning and bleeding of the animals
  • structure and material of the slaughter houses
  • the competence of the Animal Welfare Officer and the staff

This project provides a training, taking into account current legislation and the most recent scientific insights about animal welfare of the relevant species (ungulates, poultry, and rabbits).
