Develop and organize training for veterinarians to monitor animal welfare in slaughterhouses
The Flemish Government envisages the recruitment of self-employed veterinarians to monitor animal welfare in slaughter houses.
The monitoring is comprised of the following:
- suitability for transport of the animals, loading density
- unloading, moving, treatment, temporary housing, fixating, stunning and bleeding of the animals
- structure and material of the slaughter houses
- the competence of the Animal Welfare Officer and the staff
This project provides a training, taking into account current legislation and the most recent scientific insights about animal welfare of the relevant species (ungulates, poultry, and rabbits).
