A Chipscale All-Optical Photon Counter

A silicon single photon avalanche photodetector will be for the first time interfaced monolithically with a nanophotonic integrated circuit. This new geometry will enable the detection of near-visible photons with photon number resolving capability. It will also allow to impart on-chip feedback with a
very limited latency as compared to other single photon detectors (e.g. superconducting SPDs).
