Rudi Knoops

  • Research Expertise:

Before joining the Alamire Foundation in 2019, Rudi Knoops was media producer and director at KU Leuven’s Audiovisual Department. Rudi combined this position with freelance artistic work for, among others, the literary festival Behoud de Begeerte and the Flemish broadcaster VRT. He also taught media theory, experimental media and media archaeology at LUCA School of Arts (Leuven, Brussels, Genk), which led to a PhD in the Arts at LUCA / KU Leuven / University of Antwerp. In connection with his practice-based, media-archaeological research into 17th-century media technology, more specifically the technique of cylindrical anamorphosis, he created the media installation Speculum Musurgica, commissioned by the Alamire Foundation. Since its première in Antwerp in 2015, Speculum has formed part of the exhibition Petrus Alamire – Polyphony in the Picture. This exhibition has toured in the UK (Beverley), France (Bourg-en-Bresse) and Italy (Rome), with new international venues scheduled in the coming years.

As staff member for media, technology and innovation at the Alamire Foundation, Rudi co-ordinates the Library of Voices, thus continuing the research initiated by his PhD thesis. For the FWO SBO project The Sound of Music, he is expanding his work into the realm of mixed reality.
