Bringing up thinking: A comparative analysis of European textbooks in philosophy for secondary education

This project compares textbooks in philosophy education for 17-18 year old students in five different European regions. The aim is to gain insight into the way in which philosophy education is shaped in these regions. We examine whether emphasis is placed on a formal or a substantive approach to philosophy teaching, and in addition we pay attention to the following aspects and their relation to the approach to philosophy teaching: context, definition of philosophy, learning aims, content, perspectives and relations to other disciplines, teaching methods, and media.
