Development of a drought monitoring and early-warning system for the central highlands of Vietnam

This study aims at developing a Drought Monitoring and Early-Warning (DMEW) system for the Central
Highlands in Vietnam based on the satellite observations which can evaluate drought condition at near
real-time. In order to reduce the uncertainties of satellite measurements, multiple satellite data sources
will be integrated using data fusion techniques, and then calibrated using in-situ data. For the drought
prediction and warning component, we will build a data-driven model that uses climate variables as well as
current and past drought conditions to predict the drought condition in the future.
