Hydro and Wind Energy Resource Potential of Suriname under Changing Climatic Conditions

This research is aimed at quantifying / determining the potential impact of climate change on the renewable energy potential of Suriname, with a special focus on hydro- and wind resources. Hydro power, as is presently the case, will play a very important role for Suriname on the long term, i.e., regarding the sustainability of the energy sector in Suriname and further development in the future. At present, wind energy seems to have potential to play an important complementary role in the energy mix of Suriname. However, because renewable energy resources are strongly climate dependent, it is highly important to assess the potential impact of climate change on the long term, thus, laying the basis for sustainable policy and decision-making in the future, with maximization of renewable energy in the energy matrix of Suriname
