Project

Mas-related gene receptors as new mediators of gastrointestinal neuro-immune communication.

The current project aims to further explore the role and regulation of Mrgs in the gastrointestinal tract. We will study the function of Mrg in neurons and mast cells using advanced microscopical and cell biological techniques. Furthermore we plan to explore the role of Mrg beyond inflammatory intestinal pathologies, i.e. to investigate the involvement of these receptors in irritable bowelsyndrome. We will combine animal models with research in human tissues to study the translational potential of the findings. Ultimately, this study aims to provide insight in the role of Mrg receptors in gastrointestinal pathologies.
