Tibial plateau fractures – where are we heading to?

The research field will be the treatment strategies of tibial plateau fractures. I will target the question how free subchondral screws, which are used for the reconstruction en fixation of fracture fragments of extended lateral tibial plateau fractures, the structural biomechanical characteristics (load, stiffness and displacement) of a normal classic ostoesynthesis for the treatment of extended lateral tibial plateau fractures can strengthen. A studie protocol is set up in collaboration with the section biomechanics - KU Leuven (Prof Van Lenthe). This translational investigation will be performed partly at the KU Leuven and partly at the VUB. Under supervision of prof Hoekstra (KU Leuven) and prof Scheerlinck (VUB) an set up is made, at which additionally to the biomechanical studies also a clinical studie willl be performed around de treatment of tibial plateau fractures.
