Project

The Asklepios project

In 2002-2004 we extensively examined 2524 healthy men and women: questionnaires, anthropometric data,

ECG, blood & DNA sampling, echocardiography, vascular echography and tonometry.

The target population for studying early cardiac and vascular damage was chosen as 35-55 years old, without

overt cardiovascular disease. This population is younger than most cardiovascular cohorts. The original

population (n:2524, first measurement cycle 2002-2004) will undergo a follow up examination, in order to

acquire individual follow up data. These individual follow up data are essential for detecting accelerated

evolution toward dysfunction and disease. In addition, a new population 35-42 years old (n:800) will be

enrolled in order to register time related population trends.
