Liquid Crystal lasers with lateral light emission

Liquid crystal is a material that can self-organize: with a well-chosen mixture of molecules, the material forms spontaneously a helix-shaped structure, with a periodicity that matches the wavelength of light emitting molecules. When this mixture is illuminated with pulses of light, lasing can occur. The technology, the experimental setup and the theoretical modeling of in-plane lasing devices will be investigated.
