Professionalization and Managerialization in Family Firms: organizational antecedents and behavioural dynamics (R-9428)

The project aims mainly to analyze organizational antecedents and to explore behavioural dynamics of family businesses regarding their approaches to integrate professionalization and managerialization processes. We argue that professionalization should not relate only with the inclusion of non-family managers in family firms, but also it refers to the overall orchestration of capabilities, skills, competencies, and knowledge regarding the introduction of managerial systems, practices, tools or mechanisms in family firms, and vice versa. We look for investigating on a supposed missing link between family firms, professionalization (skills, capabilities, competencies, and knowledge) and managerialization (systems, practices, tools, and mechanisms). Other elements of analysis are the "if" and the "how" the integration of the two previous processes affects family firms' performances. Starting from a literature review, we will move to develop conceptual frameworks and, finally, to empirical test using the case study methodology.
