An ethical inquiry into preconception care (R-6248)

Still too many pregnancies end up in health issues that people wish to have avoided, and that could have been avoided. Several risk factors can be reduced significantly. Certain lifestyle factors of the mother, for example, influences the growth and development of the foetus and the later child (including smoking, alcohol consumption, folic acid and vitamin supplementation, and nutritional intake). Preconception care offers a window of opportunity to reduce these risks. When providing preconception care, however, diverse ethical issues come to the surface. This project will dig into the ethical issues that surround preconception care.
