Research in architecture practices

Architectural practices often seem to be frozen into preconceived constructs and discourses. This research aims at developing a renewed innocence in the development of these understandings in and on active practices. Running research about and through active practices unveils the inherent intellectual forces and the craftsmanship that confer coherence and strength to an architectural practice. Not a censorship imposed to the practice: the research acknowledges its complexity and its layeredness. Not a cosmetic wrapping of the practice either: the research escapes the constraints of arbitrary boundaries. The research works on three levels. Upstream interests, knowledge, inspirations and aspirations are explored and challenged. Downstream, post-operational observation of a body of work is also part of the research. Most important, the research is embedded in the actuality of the practice, using its tools and the work in progress. The running practice challenges the findings, it questions former reflections and opens new possibilities. The research, through these three strategies, aims at the discovery of discontinuities: moments in which the practice and its understanding change.
