Phase Relations in Metallurgical Oxide Systems Containing Rare Earth Elements

The aim of the present project is to obtain fundamental understanding of the rare earth (RE) metal Neodymium (Nd) distribution in the slag and the precipitation behavior of the RE containing compounds during slag solidification. The results provide information on the selection of suitable flux materials for RE-containing wastes recycling processes where slags are considered as the starting secondary raw materials, as an alternative to RE ores. The efficiency of REs recovery and slag recycling can thus be enhanced by a properly engineered hot stage slag treatment process.
