Project

Matrix Converter for High Reliability Multiphase Electric Motor Drives

This project will investigate and experimentally demonstrate an electric drive topology with inherently high reliability. The topology avoids single points of failure of conventional drives, by combining a multiphase electric machine and a power electronic “matrix” converter without vulnerable electrolytic capacitors. This low-cost drive is suitable for critical processes in developing countries, with possibly high ambient temperatures and limited maintenance.
