Reallocation of monasteries, a designing and typological research (R-4242)

Christian architecture helped shape European cities, villages and the countryside for the last 1500 years. Churches and monasteries formed the heart of communities and they structured the social life. Times change however, and religious buildings are rapidly losing their users and residents. A big question in this context is whether these properties, because of their often fraught history, are eligible for redesignation. This research focuses on the typology of monasteries in the province of Limburg. Within the project, the problem of vacant and / or underutilized monasteries is mapped. Next, from the method of design research - by linking program typology - it's examined what scenarios could be useful for the future.
