Project

Format of a concrete and practical roadmap for implementation of applicable securities based measurements in the current and future environmental and health policy including validation by applying to the selected "hot spot Genk-Zuid" of ... (R-2141)

The industrial zone Genk-Zuid, one of the biggest in Limburg, has a variety of industrial activities. The industrial estate is surrounded by residential areas. A recent health survey shows that residents show an increased concern about their health related to these industrial activities. According to measurements of the Flemish Environmental Agency (VMM) in the ambient air (PM10 fracteo of suspended matters), the values of nickel, chromium and manganese are here higher than in the other Flemish measuring points. The human biomonitoring (HBM)-examination of the Environment and Health Research Center will focus on whether the internal exposure to pollutants has increased, and whether exposure is associated with health effects in people living near the industrial zone.
