Facing Resistance to Research Results

Book Contribution - Chapter

Publishing is one of the key elements of an academic career. The processes of setting up and undertaking a research are generally well dealt with during academic education. Less attention is paid, however, to the dilemmas the researcher faces once his research is completed and must be published. In this article I describe the diffi culties that can arise after publication. Reception by the general public and by an academic audience will be covered, because both can lead to a variety of problems. I will argue that the difficulties of doing criminological research are not limited to the process of doing the research itself and that considerable attention is needed for this final phase of research.
