Cyclo-Stationary process analysis within telecom applications

Book Contribution - Book Chapter Conference Contribution

This paper highlights the importance of describing the cyclostationary (CS) phenomena in (tele) communication systems by observing and characterizing the behavior of signal(s) at the output of the considered system. Various circuit blocks in tele) communication systems such as frequency converters, samplers and oscillators have a periodically time varying nature. Stochastic signals generated and processed by them therefore need to be described using periodically time varying statistics. A qualitative study of the conditions under which signal characteristics at the output transform from time-variant to time-invariant statistics is considered in this work. Moreover, there is a potential for mathematical progress to extend and to generalize a well-known theory for stationary processes and applied it to CS processes. Simulation and measurement results confirm the phenomena of cyclostationarity, conditions under which CS can be avoided and no longer be present. The merits of the proposed approach are demonstrated on given test-bench setups.
