Point-by-point fiber Bragg grating inscription in a dedicated multi-ring hexagonal lattice photonic crystal fiber

Book Contribution - Book Chapter Conference Contribution

This paper reports on what is believed to be the first point-by-point fiber Bragg grating (FBG) inscribed in a hexagonal lattice multiring photonic crystal fiber (PCF). By carefully studying the transmission properties of the air holed cladding using finite difference time difference modelling software, a wide range of parameters of the hexagonal air hole lattice was identified, for which the holey cladding does not hinder tight focusing of the laser beam to the core region. For a laser wavelength of 800 nm, it was found that the cladding parameters (air hole pitch and air hole diameter) can be sufficiently large to allow fabricating a PCF using a conventional stack-and-draw technique.
