Empire, Monotheism, and Slavery in the Greater Mediterranean Region from Antiquity to the Early Modern Era

Introduces the concepts of 'slaving zones' and 'non-slaving zones' to explain the interaction of Christian and Islamic slave demand in the middle ages and early modern period; suggests new reasons for the end of early medieval slavery in Europe based on interaction with Islam, and notes the rise of 'renaissance slavery' after the Black Death in southern Europe.
