Different Peaceful Resolution Mechanisms Under Chapter VI of the UN Charter and Other Dispute Resolution Mechanisms Under International Law

This contribution looks into the settlement of international disputes in international law in general, as based today on the provisions of Chapter VI of the Charter of the United Nations. As the listing to be found there is not exhaustive, other means of dispute resolution mechanisms under international law are also addressed. Finally, the special status in this respect of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is emphasized, as it is the first multilateral convention of a universal nature that contains a well-developed part on dispute settlement, leading to compulsory procedures entailing binding decisions is diplomatic means fail.
