An analysis of homogeneity and heterogeneity of elite sport systems in six nations

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

This study examines the homogeneity and heterogeneity of elite sport development as a consequence of the internationalisation process in six nations (Belgium, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, United Kingdom). Nine policy areas or 'pillars' that were identified as important sport policy factors leading to international sporting success are compared. The findings suggest that elite sport policies are becoming increasingly homogenous but that there are considerable variations in each of the nine pillars. Large differences emerge in the way elite sport policies is implemented in the different nations.
