Fossil evidence of Dogu’a Tembien’s environmental past.

Book Contribution - Chapter

Fossils are the remains of organisms that lived in the past and became embedded and preserved in sedimentary rocks or other materials. They are typically millions to hundreds of millions of years old, and have undergone a process of fossilisation, by which their chemical composition has been altered. Many of the rock formations in Dogu’a Tembien contain fossils, and it is very likely to encounter fossils when hiking in the region. These fossils provide us with a window into the past and teach us a great deal about the ancient natural history of Dogu’a Tembien. Learning to recognise and interpret fossil remains in the field is a skill that can greatly improve the understanding of the deep and rich geological past of any landscape you explore.
