Careers in progress: Understanding the start of a sustainable career

During my post-doctoral research, I aim to investigate how early-career employees lay the foundations for a sustainable career. Two objectives will be addressed to contribute to this aim. A first objective is to increase understanding of how sustainable careers take shape in the transition to work. To achieve this objective, a systematic literature review study will be conducted to bring all research focusing on sustainability in the early-career stage together. The second objective entails the investigation of whether and how career competences – as presumed antecedent of sustainable careers – can be transferred from the educational to a working context. Therefore, different growth models will be examined in order to empirically investigate the existing contrasting theories on this topic. By achieving these objectives, this research will function as a foundation to further investigate how sustainable careers can be fostered.
