Zur Metaphysik des freien Willens bei Aristoteles

Book Contribution - Chapter

In a recent paper, Dorothea Frede claims that Aristotle does not have a conception of free will, and she criticizes Anthony Kenny's account of Aristotelian freedom. In this paper, I defend Kenny's view. I do so by interpreting relevant passages from De Interpretatione, Nicomachean Ethics and De Anima. The upshot is that Aristotle's metaphysics of freedom establishes a certain indeterminism that is is characteristic of human agency.
