Het lichaam schrijven in het Frans in de 14de eeuw: een kritische editie en taalkundige studie van de Franse vertalingen van Henri de Mondeville's Chirurgie Writing the Body in French in the 14th century: critical edition and linguistic study of the French translations of Henri de Mondeville’s Chirurgie

The French translations of Henri de Mondeville's Chirurgie are amongst the first chirurgical texts written in vernacular. From this perspective, these texts present a valuable example of the capacity  to create vocabulary, particularly through the many neologisms they present. Many of these terms, never found before these translations, are still used today, which show how important they are in the history of the French scientific vocabulary. The first French translation has been edited in the end of the 19th century and therefore calls for a new edition, in accordance with our modern principles. As for the second French translation, it has never been edited. That's why my work will present an edition of both French translations of the Chirurgie, along with a glossary of chirurgical and medical vocabulary. This edition will be completed with a study of the scientific vocabulary, through neology and the tools used by the translators to create this lexicon.
