Extreme optical nonlinearities in submicron-and nano-dimensioned waveguides (requested equipment: an Optical Parametric Oscillator). (HERC14)

Over the past several years the research field of nonlinear photonics, that studies the harnessing of light 'with light' regained much attention amongst many research groups worldwide. This renewed interest finds it origin in the development and optimization of special waveguiding structures that allow tailoring the various nonlinear optical processes far better than has ever been before. For this purpose, both photonic crystal fibers and silicon-based waveguides are most suitable.
