Veiligheid en Preventie 2010 : Wetenschappelijk fenomeenonderzoek naar eergerelateerd geweld in Belgiƫ. (FBI5)

Contemporary research and policy approaches approach honor-related violence usually related to the control of female sexuality and concepts of shame, modesty and sexual honors, thus distinguishing the so-called blood feud. This research aims at: 1. A theoretical interpretation of the concept of honor-related violence, by examining the historical, socio-economic, cultural and political contexts in which this form of violence occurs. 2. To gain insight into the extent to which social workers in Flanders are confronted with honor-related violence and contribute to the formulation of strategies to deal with them. 3. To gain insight into the way in which the concepts of 'honor' and 'shame' are given meaning by various ethnic-cultural minorities in the context of their specific migration process.
