État des lieux de la philosophie politique (1re partie)

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

In the space of two articles we shall try to do something by definition impossible: to give a complete overview of contemporary political philosophy. This first article is limited to the field of democracy. This field has given rise to a large number of theoretical developments in the course of recent years, such as the triumph of the deliberative model, the representative turn, or the emergence of radical interpretations of the democratic ideal, as post-marxist or anarcho-democratic authors propose. At the same time the philosophy of democracy has had to assess empirical developments: as the nation is no longer the exclusive theatre of political life, philosophers strive to imagine forms of "postnational" democracy and to reexamine notions such as federalism or sovereignty in order to clarify their meaning and usefulness under present-day circumstances.
