Use and nonuse value of small- and medium-sized (sport) events

At present there is enormous interest in hosting various sport, leisure and other events in urban areas. However, there is still little evidence on how local residents value the intangible benefits generated by such events. These intangible effects (e.g., civic pride, community integration, feel good factor) can be a source of local well-being, particularly in terms of small- and medium-sized (community) events. Interestingly, this is not only true for event attendees but also for residents who do not attend. This research project is aimed at residents’ valuation of use and nonuse benefits of small- and medium-sized events and will likely be conducted by means of the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) and potentially additional measurement techniques. Data will be collected at different (sport) events in different locations.
