Project

Innovative governance systems for built cultural heritage, based on traditional Andean organisational principles in Ecuador. (EC2019TEA484A101)

The project seeks to deepen the understanding of and activate the traditional Andean knowledge on organisational principles / collective management in the South-Eastern Ecuadorian Highlands. Through a planned process of ca-pacity building among university partners and synergies with Belgian NGOs active in the region, evidence-based and partially validated guidelines for local collective governance of these threatened cultural heritage and traditional architectural assets will be developed. The project explicitly opts to combine traditional Ecuadorian knowledge with the best available science, based on an approach which emphasizes interdisciplinary as well as the participation and capacity building of relevant stakeholders in different representative Test Beds. This co-creation approach towards innovative governance guidelines ensures that the developed results are user-oriented and hold a long-term vision and pathways for policymakers, public, and private actors – which is in line with the VLIR-UOS strategy for Ecuador and several international guidelines aimed at sustainable development.
