- Research Expertise:Postdoc researcher for Culture Commons Quest Office, part of Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts. Focuses on the relationship between the creative biotope (Gielen & Laermans, 2004; Gielen, 2018) and cultural policy of several European cities (Antwerp, Amsterdam, Helsinki). Research question is what conditions are needed for a balanced creative biotope and what policy efforts can be made to generate creative commons. Main interest is on how cultural policy could strengthen the relation between the arts and the civil domain they are part of. PhD research (defended in 2015) on the relationship between arts participation, social cohesion and cultural policy in the Dutch region of Drenthe.
