Phar-NMR: Superconducting Fourier 400 MHz NMR Spectrometer as Indispensable Tool in Pharmaceutical Research (Phar-NMR)

A user-friendly, multifunctional NMR spectrometer is an indispensable tool for several research groups of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Ghent University operating in the field of synthesis and analysis of new molecules with therapeutic and diagnostic potential. Replacement of the existing outdated NMR apparatus with a state-of-the-art 400 MHz device is required to support ongoing projects and to accommodate the increasing number of research initiatives that are dependent on NMR analysis. Furthermore, the future of the current NMR device has become uncertain as a result of the decision the manufacturer, Agilent (Varian), to shut down its NMR activities 3 years ago. Powerful NMR analysis is an indispensable and powerful technique for both the structure elucidation and purity assessment of newly synthesized compounds. Additionally, NMR allows careful monitoring of the progression of certain chemical and enzymatic processes. The acquisition of a powerful, robust and user-friendly  400 MHz NMR-spectrometer is pivotal for the conduct of innovative research by the consortium (more than 70 researchers).
