Variability assessment of adhesively bonded thermoplastic honeycomb sandwich structure

This paper discusses the process of uncertainty quantification in the simple case of adhesively bonded glass fibre weave reinforced thermoplastic honeycomb sandwich beams. A set of nominally identical bonded samples is constructed and subjected to extensive static and dynamic testing, coupled with dedicated numerical FE modelling. Random field stochastic modelling is applied to estimate the spatial probability density of the adhesive joint stiffness and damping properties.
