Technology-enhanced collaborative learning (TECOL). Living lab@Kulak.

In (higher) education educational technology is mainly used as a tool to organise the educational setting, to disseminate information and to facilitate communication between different actors. Taking into account the growing potential of educational technology, it seems that its impact in education remains underutilized. The TECOL (Technology-Enhanced Collaborative Learning) project aims at the design, implementation and evaluation of recent features of educational technology that devote a more central role to interactive and collaborative learning, both in lectures and practica. Three distinct living labs for interactive and collaborative learning will be created: (1) interactive lectures, (2) collaborative learning spaces, and (3) multilocation learning. Central to the TECOL project is a location-aware platform, where both the lecturer and the student connect from their own online device (laptop, smartphone, tablet), allowing for interaction and collaboration while preparing, attending and post-processing classes and learning sessions. The aim of the project is threefold: 1. Instructional design of all living labs (based on needs analysis, (inter)national benchmarking and literature review); 2. Iterative co-development on top of existing solutions and 3. effectiveness research: use, usability, perceived usefullness and pre-/post-measurement in view of user characteristics. As such, we aim at unvraveling the added value of educational technological solutions for interaction and collaborative learning.
