Jimmy Nzally

    Jimmy Hendry Nzally is a researcher in the political science department at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). His educational background includes a PhD in Political Science at the VUB and an undergraduate degree in Development Studies from the University of The Gambia (UTG). He has two master's degrees in African history from UTG, as well as a second degree in linguistics and literary studies from VUB.

    His areas of interest in study include postcolonial literature, regime change, and democratization in Africa, as well as the social history of minority ethnic groups in the Senegambia region. His article on The Gambia Law Review provided a critical overview of The Gambia's tripartite Political History by covering the three regimes in power.

    He worked as a relations officer at the UTG, for the Central Government of The Gambia in the Personal Management Office, as a consultant with Options Consultancy Services based in the UK, United Nations agency like the World Food Programme, and for the US Embassy (American Corner), to name a few.

    Jimmy has worked on multiple projects and initiatives for community development. He was a radio host on West Coast Radio, one of the most significant stations in The Gambia. The program features incisive discussions on national affairs, youth issues, and a wide range of other topics. He established the UTG Leadership Scholarship at the University of The Gambia (UTG), a venue for educating college students on leadership and thereby maximizing their potential.

    He became Chairperson of the International Student Platform (ISP) at VUB, founded the Africa Student Community, and assisted in the formation of the Latin America Student Community. He was given the honor of delivering a speech at the 2017/2018 Academic Opening in Bozar. He was also the first student in the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy to deliver the valedictorian address at the 2016/2017 graduation ceremony. He has also appeared on the BBC, SkyNews, and the Voice of America, among other international news outlets.

    Some of his awards include being awarded the VUB Student Laureate, US Embassy Federal Assistant Award, National Merit Award in recognition of his contribution to national development in The Gambia, and VUB Student of the Year.
